Sensory Spaces: Abstract and Figurative Fine Art by John Patrick

My creative practice balances body-positive figurative art with non-figurative abstract and impressionistic studies, bridging traditional mastery with a fresh, tactile aesthetic. Teaching life drawing since 1998 across Oxford and Stockport, I first gained widespread recognition for inclusive figure work, which earned features on BBC TV, Radio and exhibitions at London's Menier and Strand galleries.
Today, my evolving work embraces a highly tactile approach. I use heavy palette-knife textures, layered acrylics, and gold leaf on stretched canvases and wood panels to create striking pieces sympathetic to contemporary living and working spaces. These rich, physical surfaces capture light and shadow, transforming flat walls into sensory focal points.

Based in Lancashire since 2015, my work remains deeply connected to the community. As the former Managing Director of an Arts Community Interest Company, my passion lies in local creative outreach, supporting other local artists.
